Background
Refuge Forum member Sam Green founded the Dogstar Foundation in 2006. Sam had traveled to Sri Lanka to work at an elephant sanctuary but became aware that a large number of dogs and cats in rural Sri Lanka had no access to veternairty care either because they were strays or their owners lacked funds/access to seek treatments or vaccinations.
What we do
Provide free veterinary treatment for companion, community (stray) dogs and cats via a series of mobile and outreach clinics
Sterilisation and vaccination clinics for communities with no access or funds for veterinary care
Funded research study into the spread of Rabies in Sri Lanka
Grants and donations to local vets
Providing equipment and supplies to the University of Peradeniya
Provide care for animals living at Temples
Promoting responsible and compassionate ownership
After school workshops with children explaining our work and promoting bite prevention and post bite action
In our first 24 months over 500 animals have been sterlised and nearly 1000 vaccinated for life threatening diseases such as Rabies, Parvo and Distemper
Volunteers are welcome both in the UK and Sri Lanka please contact us for details
